cTrader Problems and Fixes

cTrader is fast and modern, but connection, account or app issues can still get in the way. Here are the most common cTrader problems with a symptom, likely cause and a known-working fix.

Stuck on connecting or will not connect

Symptom: cTrader hangs on "connecting" and never reaches your account.

Cause: A connection block, wrong environment or server issue.

  1. Check your internet, then close and reopen cTrader.
  2. Confirm you selected the correct environment, Live or Demo, that matches your account.
  3. Allow cTrader through your firewall or antivirus.
  4. Try the cTrader Web version to see if the issue is the desktop app.
  5. Contact your broker in case the cTrader server is in maintenance.

Login fails or cannot find broker

Symptom: You cannot log in, or your broker is not in the list.

Cause: Wrong cTrader ID credentials, or the broker uses a separate login.

  1. Log in with your cTrader ID (email and password), which can differ from your broker client login.
  2. If prompted, pick your broker from the list, then the correct account.
  3. If your broker is missing, download cTrader from your broker directly so their servers load.
  4. Reset your cTrader ID password from the login screen if needed.

Charts not loading

Symptom: Charts are blank or stuck loading.

Cause: A data glitch or a heavy layout.

  1. Right-click the chart and refresh, or remove and re-add the symbol.
  2. Switch the timeframe and switch back to force a redraw.
  3. Reduce heavy indicators or cBots on the chart.
  4. Restart cTrader, and try cTrader Web to isolate the issue.

cBot not running or not appearing

Symptom: Your cBot does not start or is missing from the list.

Cause: Automated trading is off, the cBot did not build, or it is in the wrong place.

  1. Click the Automate tab and make sure the global Automated Trading toggle is on.
  2. Open the cBot instance and press Start, and confirm it is attached to a symbol and timeframe.
  3. In Automate, check the cBot built with no errors. Rebuild if needed.
  4. Confirm the cBot file is in the correct cAlgo Robots folder.

Missing symbols

Symptom: A symbol you want is not available.

Cause: The symbol list is filtered, or your account does not include it.

  1. Use the Symbols search at the top and type the instrument.
  2. Check the symbol group filters are not hiding it.
  3. If it is genuinely missing, your account type may not offer it, so ask your broker.

High latency or slow execution

Symptom: Orders are slow and latency looks high.

Cause: Distance to the server or a slow connection.

  1. Check the latency shown in cTrader and consider a broker server closer to you.
  2. Use a wired connection rather than wifi.
  3. For serious latency, run cTrader on a VPS near the broker server.
  4. Close other bandwidth-heavy apps.

Crashes on startup

Symptom: cTrader closes or crashes when you open it.

Cause: A corrupt cache, an outdated version, or a missing framework.

  1. Update to the latest cTrader from your broker.
  2. On Windows, make sure the required .NET runtime is installed.
  3. Clear the cTrader cache, or reinstall the app.
  4. Use cTrader Web as a temporary workaround.

Cannot install cTrader

Symptom: The installer fails or will not complete.

Cause: Permissions, antivirus, or a missing framework.

  1. Run the installer as administrator.
  2. Temporarily allow the installer through antivirus.
  3. Install the required .NET framework if prompted.
  4. Download a fresh copy from your broker in case the file was incomplete.

Orders rejected

Symptom: Your orders are rejected instead of filling.

Cause: Not enough margin, a closed market, or invalid stop and target levels.

  1. Reduce the volume, and use our position size calculator to size to your risk.
  2. Check the market is open for that symbol.
  3. Make sure your stop loss and take profit respect the minimum distance from price.
  4. Confirm you have free margin available in the account.

Automate tab or cBot build errors

Symptom: A cBot or indicator will not build in the Automate tab.

Cause: A code error or an outdated cAlgo API reference.

  1. Open the cBot in the Automate editor and read the build error.
  2. Update deprecated cAlgo or cTrader Automate API calls.
  3. For a third-party cBot, get the latest version from the author.
  4. Rebuild after fixing, and check the log for remaining errors.

Account not showing after login

Symptom: You logged in but your trading account is missing.

Cause: The account is not linked to your cTrader ID, or the wrong environment is selected.

  1. Confirm the account is linked to your cTrader ID in your broker client area.
  2. Switch between Live and Demo to match where the account sits.
  3. Add the account through your broker if it never appears.
