cTrader hangs on "connecting" and never reaches your account.
A connection block, wrong environment or server issue.
cTrader connects through your broker's servers, and it separates live and demo into different environments with different endpoints. Selecting the wrong environment sends the connection somewhere your account does not exist, and rather than failing quickly it can sit retrying, which is why it hangs on connecting rather than returning an error. The desktop application also relies on outbound connections that firewalls and antivirus software sometimes block silently, producing the same indefinite wait.
Because cTrader is a desktop application talking to a broker-hosted service, a maintenance window or an outage on the broker's side looks identical from your machine. Trying the web version is a useful test precisely because it removes your local application, firewall and installation from the picture: if the web version connects, the problem is local; if it does not, it is your broker's service or your credentials.
A successful connection shows your account and balance, and symbol prices update in the watchlist during market hours. Confirm the account shown is the one you meant, live or demo, since connecting to the wrong environment with a valid account there looks like success but is the wrong account.
Add cTrader to your firewall and antivirus exceptions once, so a security update does not silently break it later. Note which environment your account sits in, since this is the commonest cause of a hang. If your broker publishes a status page or maintenance schedule, check it before troubleshooting your own setup.
