Position size refused or capped in TradeLocker

The size you want is refused instantly, or the platform will not accept the number you type into the size field.

What is causing it

A maximum size or exposure limit set by the firm, or a size step the instrument does not permit.

Why this happens

Size caps stop a single trade breaching the firm's own risk allowance and are applied before routing. Since the check is instant, a capped order is indistinguishable from a broken one at first glance. Repeatability is the tell: a fault would not reliably accept one size and reject another.

The fix, step by step

  1. Halve the size repeatedly to find where the ceiling is. A clean, repeatable ceiling indicates a configured cap.
  2. Check whether the cap is per order or across all open positions, as total exposure caps also block several small orders.
  3. Check the instrument's minimum size and increment. A value that is not a valid multiple will be refused regardless of your limits.
  4. Reduce or close other open positions if they are consuming your exposure allowance.
  5. Confirm the cap with your firm for your account size and stage. Caps usually scale with account size and are often tighter during evaluation.
  6. If the input field itself will not take the number, that is an interface limit, which still points to a configured maximum rather than a fault.

How to confirm it is fixed

Orders at or below the limit are consistently accepted and orders above it are consistently refused.

Stopping it happening again

Write down the per-order and total exposure caps for your account and build your position sizing around them.
