Positions closed or blocked before the weekend in Match-Trader

Your position is closed automatically near the Friday close, or new orders are refused as the week ends.

What is causing it

A weekend-holding restriction. Many firms forbid carrying positions through the weekend and enforce it by blocking new trades and flattening open ones.

Why this happens

Weekend gaps can move a market far beyond any stop, so firms remove the exposure rather than carry it. The enforcement is automatic, which is why a position can disappear without you touching anything. The refusal of new orders beforehand is the same rule working from the other end.

The fix, step by step

  1. Check your firm's rules for weekend holding, and note whether it is forbidden outright or merely discouraged.
  2. Note the exact cut-off time and time zone the firm uses. It is often earlier than the market close, not at it.
  3. Close positions yourself before the cut-off rather than letting an automatic close do it, so you choose the exit price.
  4. Check whether pending orders are also cancelled at the cut-off, as several firms cancel them.
  5. Check whether the same rule applies to holidays and to daily rollover, which some firms treat similarly.
  6. If a position was closed automatically, check the dashboard for whether it counted as a rule breach or merely a forced close. These have very different consequences.

How to confirm it is fixed

Your positions list is empty ahead of the firm's stated cut-off, and the dashboard records no breach for that session.

Stopping it happening again

Set your own alarm for fifteen minutes before the firm's cut-off, in your own time zone, and treat Friday afternoon as intraday only.
