Prices frozen after leaving the tab in the background in DXtrade

You return to the platform tab and prices, the chart or the position list are showing values from minutes ago before they suddenly jump.

What is causing it

The browser suspended or throttled the background tab to save power, so the platform stopped receiving updates.

Why this happens

Modern browsers actively slow down or freeze tabs that are not visible, and operating systems suspend applications on sleep. The platform is a web page, so when it is frozen it simply stops receiving updates. On resuming it reconnects and catches up, which is why prices jump. The danger is the gap in between, when the screen shows a price that no longer exists.

The fix, step by step

  1. Treat any figure on screen as stale until it visibly updates. Wait for the price to tick before acting on it.
  2. Reload the page after a long period in the background rather than trusting what was already drawn.
  3. Keep the trading tab in its own window and leave it visible, rather than buried behind other tabs in the same window.
  4. Turn off memory or energy saving features for this site in your browser's performance settings, if your browser offers a per-site exception.
  5. Stop your computer sleeping while you hold positions, using your operating system's power settings.
  6. For anything you must not miss, use resting orders rather than watching the screen, and consider the firm's mobile app as a second view.

How to confirm it is fixed

Leave the tab in the background for a few minutes, come back, and confirm the price starts ticking within a second or two rather than sitting still and then jumping.

Stopping it happening again

Give the platform its own always-visible window, keep the machine awake while positions are open, and never place an order from a price that has not ticked since you returned.
