After the platform sat in a background tab, prices, positions or the chart show old values, then suddenly jump.
The browser suspended or throttled the tab to save power, so no updates arrived while it was hidden.
Browsers throttle or freeze hidden tabs, and operating systems suspend applications on sleep. A trading platform is a web page and gets the same treatment. When it resumes it reconnects and redraws, and the apparent price jump is simply the market having moved while nothing was being received.
The danger is the interval before the reconnection completes, when the screen still shows a price that no longer exists and an order sent against it can fill somewhere very different.
Leave the tab hidden for several minutes, return, and confirm prices resume ticking within a second or two rather than sitting still.
Give the platform a dedicated, visible window, keep the machine awake while exposed, and place protective orders rather than watching.
