Crypto Staking Calculator

Staking yield is real, and it is paid in the same coin. This shows both the reward and what happens if the coin moves.

Yield in a falling asset

A 6 percent yield on something that falls 50 percent is still a 47 percent loss. Staking rewards are real, and they do not protect you from price. Set the price change to minus 50 and look at the result.

Lock ups

Many chains lock withdrawals for days or weeks. You cannot sell during a crash. Know the unbonding period before you stake, not after.

Common questions

Is staking free money?

No. You take lock up risk, slashing risk and the full price risk of the asset. The yield being real does not make the position safe.

What is slashing?

A penalty that destroys part of a stake when a validator misbehaves or is offline too long. Delegators share it, so the validator you pick matters.
