Crypto Liquidation Price Calculator

Work this out before you open a position, not after. At 20x leverage a 5 percent move against you is the whole position.

Typically 0.4 to 1 percent. Check your venue.

Liquidation is not partial

When your margin can no longer support the position, it is closed entirely, usually with a fee on top. You do not get a warning and you do not get the position back if price recovers a minute later.

Wicks are real

Price can spike briefly on one venue, liquidate you, and recover within minutes. Higher leverage means a shorter wick is enough. This is the main argument for keeping leverage in low single digits.

Common questions

What leverage is safe in crypto?

Low single digits, or none. Crypto already moves enough that high leverage mostly guarantees liquidation on ordinary volatility.

What is maintenance margin?

The minimum equity the venue requires to keep the position open. It varies by exchange and by position size, and it is why your real liquidation price is slightly better than the naive calculation.
