A positive risk-to-reward ratio lets you be profitable even when most of your trades lose. With a 1:3 ratio you only need to win about 25% of the time to break even. This calculator shows your ratio and the exact break-even win rate for any setup.
Risk = distance from entry to stop loss. Reward = distance from entry to take profit. Ratio = reward ÷ risk. Break-even win rate = 1 ÷ (ratio + 1). A 1:2 setup breaks even at a 33% win rate; 1:3 at 25%.

| 1 : 2 | Break even at 33% win rate |

Start free trialMany profitable traders aim for at least 1:2, meaning they target twice as much reward as they risk. A 1:2 ratio only needs a 33% win rate to break even, and 1:3 needs just 25%.
Measure the distance from your entry to your stop loss (the risk) and from your entry to your take profit (the reward), then divide reward by risk. Prices or pips both work as long as you are consistent.
It depends on your ratio. Break-even win rate is 1 divided by (ratio + 1). At 1:2 you need above 33%, at 1:3 above 25%. Anything higher than the break-even rate is profitable over time.
