How the profit and loss calculator works

This calculator converts the difference between your entry and exit prices into pips, then into a dollar profit or loss based on your lot size. Use it before a trade to check the reward, or after to record your result.

The P&L formula

Profit = pips moved × pip value per lot × lot size. Pips moved = (exit price − entry price) ÷ pip size, flipped for short trades. A 50-pip winner on 1 lot of EUR/USD at $10 per pip is $500.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate forex profit?

Take the number of pips between your entry and exit, multiply by the pip value per lot, then by your lot size. A 50-pip gain on 1 standard lot of EUR/USD equals 50 x $10 = $500.

How do I convert pips to dollars?

Multiply the pips by the pip value per lot and your lot size. On EUR/USD at $10 per pip, 30 pips on 0.5 lots is 30 x $10 x 0.5 = $150.

Does this account for spread and commission?

No. This shows the raw price-based profit or loss. Subtract your spread and any commission for the net result, which you can estimate using the typical spreads on our broker directory.
