TradingView Problems and Fixes

TradingView runs in your browser, so most issues come from the browser, your connection, your plan or the data source. Here are the most common TradingView problems with a symptom, likely cause and a known-working fix.

Chart not loading or blankInvalid symbol or symbol not foundAlerts not firingSlow or laggy performanceCannot connect a broker for tradingData delayed or not real timeDrawings or layout disappearedPine script compile errorsCannot log in or 2FA issuesBar replay not workingWatchlist not syncing

Chart not loading or blank

Symptom: The chart area is blank, spinning or grey.

Cause: Usually a browser cache, extension or connection issue.

  1. Do a hard refresh with Ctrl and F5, or Cmd, Shift and R on a Mac.
  2. Clear the TradingView site cache, or open it in a private or incognito window.
  3. Disable ad blockers and privacy extensions for tradingview.com.
  4. Try a different browser such as Chrome, and make sure it is up to date.
  5. Check the TradingView status page in case of an outage.

Invalid symbol or symbol not found

Symptom: You get "Invalid symbol" or the ticker will not load.

Cause: The exchange prefix is wrong, or your plan does not include that market.

  1. Use the search box and pick the symbol from the results so the exchange prefix is correct, for example OANDA:EURUSD.
  2. Some symbols need a specific data provider or a paid data add-on.
  3. Try the same symbol from a different exchange or broker feed.

Alerts not firing

Symptom: Your alerts do not trigger or you get no notification.

Cause: The alert expired, the condition never met, or notifications are off.

  1. Open the alert and check it is still active and not expired. Free plans have alert limits and expiries.
  2. Confirm the trigger condition (Once, Every time, On close) matches what you expect.
  3. Enable notifications in Settings, and allow browser and app notifications.
  4. For webhook or app alerts, check the destination is set up correctly.

Slow or laggy performance

Symptom: Charts stutter, drawing lags, or the tab freezes.

Cause: Too many indicators or layouts, or a heavy browser.

  1. Reduce the number of indicators on the chart. Many free accounts allow only a few.
  2. Close extra chart layouts and browser tabs.
  3. Turn off unused drawing objects and templates.
  4. Use the desktop app instead of the browser for heavier setups.
  5. Update your browser and graphics drivers.

Cannot connect a broker for trading

Symptom: You cannot trade from TradingView or the broker will not connect.

Cause: The broker is not linked, or trading through TradingView is not supported for your account.

  1. Open the Trading Panel at the bottom and select your broker from the list.
  2. Log in with your broker credentials in the panel, not your TradingView password.
  3. Confirm your broker actually supports TradingView trading and your account is eligible.
  4. If your broker is not listed, use their own platform and TradingView for charting only.

Data delayed or not real time

Symptom: Prices lag behind or show a "delayed" label.

Cause: You do not have a real-time data subscription for that exchange.

  1. Real-time exchange data (for many stock exchanges) requires a paid data subscription.
  2. Forex and crypto from broker feeds are usually real time without extra cost.
  3. Connect a supported broker to get their real-time feed inside TradingView.

Drawings or layout disappeared

Symptom: Your lines, drawings or whole layout are missing.

Cause: You are on a different layout, or not logged in to the same account.

  1. Make sure you are logged in to the same TradingView account.
  2. Open the layout menu (top right) and load the saved layout by name.
  3. Check you have not switched symbol or timeframe if drawings were not set to stay visible on all.
  4. Save layouts explicitly so they persist across sessions.

Pine script compile errors

Symptom: A Pine script indicator will not add and shows a red error.

Cause: The script uses an old Pine version or has a syntax error.

  1. Open the Pine Editor and read the error line and message.
  2. Check the version tag at the top, such as //@version=5, matches the code.
  3. Update deprecated functions if the script was written for an older Pine version.
  4. If it is a third-party script, get the latest version from the author.

Cannot log in or 2FA issues

Symptom: You cannot sign in, or the two-factor code will not work.

Cause: Wrong credentials, clock drift on the authenticator, or a social login mismatch.

  1. Use the exact login method you signed up with (email, Google, Apple, and so on).
  2. For an authenticator code, make sure your phone clock is set to automatic, as codes are time based.
  3. Reset your password from the login page if needed.
  4. Use backup codes if you have lost access to your authenticator.

Bar replay not working

Symptom: Bar Replay is greyed out or will not start.

Cause: Replay is not available for that symbol, timeframe or your plan.

  1. Bar Replay on some intraday timeframes needs a paid plan.
  2. Pick a supported symbol and timeframe, then click Replay and choose a start bar.
  3. Refresh the page if the Replay controls do not respond.

Watchlist not syncing

Symptom: Your watchlist looks different across devices.

Cause: You are not on the same account, or changes did not save.

  1. Confirm you are logged in to the same account on each device.
  2. Refresh the page so the latest watchlist loads from your account.
  3. Create and name watchlists so they are saved to your profile, not just the session.
