Cannot log in or 2FA issues in TradingView

You cannot sign in, or the two-factor code will not work.

What is causing it

Wrong credentials, clock drift on the authenticator, or a social login mismatch.

Why this happens

Signing up with Google, Apple or another provider creates an account linked to that provider rather than one with a password of its own. Trying to sign in with an email and password afterwards fails because there is no password stored to check, and a password reset will not help for the same reason. The account is fine; you are knocking on the wrong door.

Authenticator codes are generated from a shared secret combined with the current time, and both ends must agree on the time to within a small window. If your phone's clock has drifted, the codes it produces are computed for a moment that has passed and are rejected even though the app and the account are correctly paired. Setting the phone clock to automatic resynchronises it, which is why that fixes codes that look completely correct.

The fix, step by step

  1. Use the exact login method you signed up with (email, Google, Apple, and so on).
  2. For an authenticator code, make sure your phone clock is set to automatic, as codes are time based.
  3. Reset your password from the login page if needed.
  4. Use backup codes if you have lost access to your authenticator.

How to confirm it is fixed

Sign in successfully and check the account name shown is the one you expect, since it is easy to have created a second account with a different sign-in method. Then sign out and back in once more to confirm it was not a one-off. If you used a backup code, generate a fresh set immediately, because each one works only once.

Stopping it happening again

Record which sign-in method you used when you created the account, as this is the single most common cause of being locked out. Store backup codes somewhere you can reach without the phone that holds the authenticator. Keep automatic time enabled on that phone, since code failures caused by clock drift look identical to a wrong secret.
