Missing symbols in Market Watch in MetaTrader 4

The symbol you want is not in Market Watch.

What is causing it

The full symbol list is hidden.

Why this happens

Market Watch shows a subset of what your account offers, not everything. Brokers ship a default visible list and hide the rest, partly to keep the window manageable and partly because every visible symbol is one the terminal subscribes to and receives ticks for. Hiding symbols you do not use genuinely reduces load, which is why the platform is built this way rather than showing everything by default.

Beyond that, availability is set by your account type. Different account tiers with the same broker can carry different instrument sets, and some instruments are restricted by your jurisdiction or regulator. In that case the symbol is not hidden but genuinely absent from your account, and no amount of unhiding will produce it. Only your broker can tell you which of the two situations you are in.

The fix, step by step

  1. Right-click Market Watch and choose Show All, or Symbols.
  2. In the Symbols window, expand the group and enable the instrument.
  3. If it is still missing, your account type may not include it, so check with the broker.

How to confirm it is fixed

The symbol should appear in Market Watch with a live bid and ask during its trading session, and it should open on a chart with history. A symbol that is visible but shows no prices is usually outside its session rather than unavailable, so check the session times before concluding anything is wrong.

Stopping it happening again

Show all symbols once, enable the ones you use and hide the rest, so your working list stays small and predictable. If a specific instrument matters to you, confirm before opening the account that your account type and region include it, because this is set at account level rather than in the platform.
