Whether the liquidity pool tokens were burned or locked. If they were not, the deployer can withdraw the pool at any moment and the price goes to zero instantly. This is the single most important check and it takes about a minute on a block explorer.

control (25 points)

Whether mint authority and contract ownership have been renounced. If they have not, whoever holds the key can mint more supply or change the rules after you buy.

distribution (20 points)

Whether there was a presale or a team allocation. Insiders who entered lower are profitable at prices where you are not, and they are the natural sellers into your buying.

transparency (15 points)

Whether the contract source is verified and readable, so the code can be checked rather than trusted.

concentration (10 points)

How much of the supply sits in a small number of wallets. High concentration means one decision by one holder is your outcome.

The four checks, in order of how much they matter

1. Are the liquidity pool tokens burned or locked? If not, the deployer can withdraw the pool and the price goes to zero in one transaction. This has happened to enormous tokens, including the first major launch on Base. Check it on the block explorer before anything else.
2. Has ownership and mint authority been renounced? If not, more supply can be created, or the rules changed, after you buy. On Solana this is the mint and freeze authority; on an EVM chain it is the owner address on the contract.
3. What do the top ten wallets hold? Excluding the liquidity pool and any identified burn address. If ten wallets hold most of the supply, one person's decision is your outcome.
4. Is the contract source verified? If nobody can read the code, nobody can tell you what it does, including whether you will be able to sell. There is no legitimate reason for an unverified contract on a token asking for your money.

When someone creates a trading pool they receive tokens representing their share of it, and those tokens can be redeemed to withdraw the pool. Burning them sends them to an address nobody controls, which makes the withdrawal permanently impossible. Locking them puts them in a time contract instead. If neither has happened, the pool can be removed at any moment.
