You change something, it works on one chart, and everything else carries on as before. Or the change vanishes when you open a different chartbook.
Many Sierra Chart settings are per chart or per chartbook, not global. Only settings under Global Settings apply across the platform.
The chartbook is the unit of saved state. It holds the charts, their studies, their settings and their layout, which is what makes chartbooks portable and reusable. The trade-off is that a change inside one chartbook has no effect on another.
This design is also why advice found online frequently does not work first time. The person giving it may be describing a global setting while you are looking at a chart setting, or the reverse.
Open a second chartbook and confirm the setting behaves as you expect, which tells you whether it was global or local.
Learn which of your regular settings are global and which are per chart, and keep a master chartbook you copy from.
