You submit an entry expecting an automatic stop and target, but the position opens naked with no protective orders.
The ATM strategy was not selected at the moment the entry order was submitted, or the template it relies on is not the one you think.
An ATM strategy is a template that describes what orders to place around an entry. NinjaTrader applies it as the entry goes out, so the association is made at that instant. If no strategy was selected, the entry is just an entry.
Because the selection lives on the order entry window rather than the account or the chart, it is genuinely easy to submit from a window that has no strategy selected while another window does.
Immediately after an entry fills, the stop and target orders are visible as working orders on the chart and in the orders list, at the distances the template specifies.
Make checking the ATM selection part of your pre-trade routine, and never assume protection is in place without seeing the working orders.
