An imported indicator does not appear in the list in NinjaTrader 8

What is causing it

The file was not imported through the platform's import function, the import failed part-way, or the platform has not been restarted since.

Why this happens

NinjaScript add-ons are compiled into the platform rather than simply dropped in as files. The import routine unpacks, places and compiles the code, and only then does the indicator become available to charts.

If any of those stages fails, or if you bypass it by copying files by hand, the code may physically exist on disk while the platform has no record of it.

The fix, step by step

1. Import add-ons through the Control Center's Tools menu, using the NinjaScript Add-On import option, and select the vendor's original compressed file without unzipping it first.
2. Do not copy files manually into program folders, because a manual copy skips the step that registers the add-on with the platform.
3. Read the message the platform shows at the end of the import. If it reports a problem, the import did not complete and the indicator will not be listed.
4. Restart NinjaTrader completely after a successful import.
5. Open a chart, add an indicator, and search the list by the vendor's exact name for the tool.
6. If it is still missing, ask the vendor whether the file is built for NinjaTrader 8 specifically, as files for the older version will not load.

How to confirm it is fixed

The indicator appears in the indicator list on a chart and can be added, configured and removed without an error.

Stopping it happening again

Always keep the vendor's original download file so you can re-import cleanly, and always restart the platform after importing.
