Installing Market Structure Pro and Your First Chart

This takes about five minutes. You need MetaTrader 5 installed and logged in to a broker account, live or demo. A demo account is completely fine to start with, and is what we would suggest for the first week.

CHAPTER 2 OF 126 MIN READUPDATED 2026

Step 1: put the file in the right folder

MetaTrader hides its own folder, so open it from inside the platform rather than hunting through your drive.

  1. In MetaTrader 5, click File, then Open Data Folder. A window opens.
  2. Open the MQL5 folder, then the Indicators folder inside it.
  3. Copy the Market Structure Pro files you downloaded into that Indicators folder.
  4. Go back to MetaTrader and press F5, or right-click in the Navigator panel and choose Refresh.
If you cannot see the Navigator panel, press Ctrl and N together to show it.

Step 2: attach it to a chart

  1. Open a chart for the instrument you want, for example EURUSD.
  2. Set the timeframe. If you are unsure, start on M15 or H1.
  3. In the Navigator panel, open Indicators, then Market Structure Pro.
  4. Drag it onto the chart, or double-click it.
  5. When the settings window appears, tick Allow DLL imports if prompted, then click OK.

The dashboard should appear on the chart within a second or two. If it does not, skip to the last section on this page.

Step 3: the only three settings that matter on day one

There are ten sections of settings. You can safely ignore nine of them for now. These three shape everything else, and the defaults are already sensible.

Section 01, Start Here
Trading Style
AUTO TIMEFRAME
Leave this on AUTO. MSP reads the timeframe of the chart you dropped it on and configures the whole engine to match. Change it only when you deliberately want scalping behaviour on a slow chart, or the reverse.
Risk Profile
Moderate
Controls how demanding MSP is before it grants permission. Safe signals less often and waits for more agreement. Aggressive signals more often and accepts thinner conditions. Moderate sits between them.
Learning Mode
On
Adds a help button to the chart that explains, in plain English, why you are seeing the current call. Leave this on until the dashboard feels obvious. It costs nothing to keep on.

Step 4: give it a candle

MSP decides on closed candles, so on an H1 chart it may show NO TRADE for a while simply because the current hour has not finished. This is correct behaviour, not a fault. On an M1 chart you will see it update every minute; on a D1 chart, once a day.

If you want to watch it work properly, use M5 or M15 for the first session.

Save it so you never set it up twice

  1. With the chart looking how you want it, right-click the chart and choose Template, then Save Template.
  2. Name it something like MSP and save.
  3. On any new chart, right-click, choose Template, and pick your saved one. Everything comes back.
Save a template before you start experimenting with settings. It gives you a known-good state to return to.

If nothing appears on the chart

Almost every case is one of four things, in this order of likelihood.

Common questions

Where do I put the Market Structure Pro files in MetaTrader 5?

In MetaTrader 5, click File then Open Data Folder, then open MQL5 and then Indicators. Copy the files there and press F5 in the Navigator panel to refresh.

Why is nothing showing after I added the indicator?

The most common causes are files placed in the wrong folder, MetaTrader not refreshed, the chart scrolled away from the latest candle, or a licence that has not activated. Check the Experts tab at the bottom of MetaTrader for messages.

Which timeframe should I start on?

M15 or H1. They update often enough to see MSP working without the noise of M1, and both suit the default settings.
