Crypto.com review: score, licensing and risks
75/100SCORE · BTrusted
Grade B, very good
Crypto.com is one of the more broadly licensed exchanges, holding MiCA authorisation in Malta plus a long list of national registrations. It reimbursed every affected user after its 2022 hot wallet incident. It also runs the Cronos chain, which makes it the obvious venue for that ecosystem. The recurring complaint is value: the consumer app charges considerably more than the exchange product, and reward terms have been cut repeatedly.

How the score breaks down
Each dimension is explained on the methodology page.
Where it is strong and where it is not
✓ Strengths
- Broad licensing including MiCA, and a long list of national registrations
- Reimbursed users fully after its 2022 incident
- Good card and fiat on ramp coverage
- Runs Cronos, so it is the natural venue for that ecosystem
✗ Weaknesses
- The consumer app is much more expensive than the exchange, and the difference is not obvious
- Heavy marketing spend has drawn criticism
- Staking and card reward terms have been cut repeatedly
Incident history
2022
A hot wallet incident affected around 480 accounts and roughly 34 million dollars. All affected users were reimbursed in full.
Our read
Well licensed, handled its one significant incident properly, and has broad fiat coverage. The main criticism is commercial rather than structural: the app pricing is poor value against the exchange, and reward programmes have been reduced more than once after users committed to them.
