XM (operated by the Trading Point group, founded 2009, headquartered in Limassol, Cyprus) is a large, long-established forex and CFD broker aimed mainly at retail traders from beginners to active scalpers and algo traders. Its standout appeal is accessibility: a $5 minimum deposit, commission-free Micro/Standard/Ultra Low accounts, a free demo, and support for both MT4 and MT5 plus a proprietary app. It offers around 1,400 instruments across forex, indices, commodities/metals, ~1,300 share CFDs and crypto CFDs.
On safety, XM operates through several regulated entities: CySEC (Cyprus, 120/10), ASIC (Australia, AFSL 443670), FSC (Belize), DFSA (UAE) and FSCA (South Africa). Funds are segregated, EU clients are covered by the Investor Compensation Fund, and negative balance protection is provided. Protection and leverage depend heavily on the onboarding entity, with offshore units offering higher leverage but weaker safeguards.
On costs, XM is essentially a market maker. Standard EUR/USD spreads are around 1.6 pips (typical), only average, while Ultra Low brings this toward 0.6-0.8 pips; gold is roughly 3.5 pips (approximate). Main trade-offs: no US clients, no PayPal or crypto funding, and a market-maker model that may not suit traders wanting ECN execution.
A separate reputation score out of 100, based on genuine user reviews across the web and kept independent of the feature score above. Our read: reviews are mixed.
XM is sharply polarised: institutional-style reviewers rate it well (BrokerChooser 4.3/5, WikiFX 9.15/10), but its consumer Trustpilot profile is weak (~2.3-3.3/5 across ~3,000+ reviews) with a heavy 1-star tail (~39% one-star) centred on account-closure and withdrawal disputes. Reviews look genuine, but the split between analyst scores and real-user sentiment is a caution. XM runs multiple Trustpilot domains so headline figures vary.
