Pros & cons

✓ Pros

  • Regulated by multiple Tier-1 authorities (US NFA/CFTC, UK FCA, ASIC, Canada CIRO, MAS, Japan FSA) - one of few US-regulated forex brokers
  • Long track record - operating since 1996 (~30 years) with a strong reputation for reliability and transparency
  • No minimum deposit and support for very small trade sizes, friendly to beginners
  • Choice of platforms: proprietary OANDA Trade, MT4, MT5 (region-dependent) and native TradingView
  • Strong research and market analysis content (MarketPulse)

✗ Cons

  • Spreads on the default Standard account are higher than the cheapest competitors (EUR/USD typically ~1.6 pips)
  • MT5 is NOT available everywhere - offered only via UK, Japan and BVI/emerging-markets entities; US clients cannot use MT5 (or CFDs)
  • Product range restricted in the US: no CFDs; crypto in the US handled separately (spot via Paxos)
  • Recurring user complaints about delayed/blocked withdrawals and slow support (per third-party review aggregators)
  • No 24/7 support - customer service runs standard 24/5 forex-market hours

Full review

OANDA is a long-established online forex and CFD broker founded in 1996, with its principal office in New York and major regulated entities in Toronto, London, Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney and the BVI. It is one of the relatively few brokers holding US regulation (NFA/CFTC) alongside a suite of Tier-1 licenses (FCA, ASIC, CIRO, MAS, Japan FSA), making it a safety-focused choice for traders who prioritise regulation and a multi-decade track record. Client funds are held in segregated accounts and the firm publishes transparency data.

On costs and platforms, OANDA uses a two-tier structure: a default spread-only Standard account (no commission; EUR/USD typically around 1.6 pips, gold/XAUUSD around 0.38) and a Core Pricing account with tighter raw spreads plus commission of roughly $5 per $100k traded. There is no minimum deposit and micro trade sizes are supported, which suits beginners. Traders can use the proprietary OANDA Trade platform (TradingView-powered charting), MT4, native TradingView, and MT5 - though MT5 availability is region-limited (UK, Japan, BVI/emerging markets) and not offered to US clients.

Instrument coverage spans forex, indices, commodities, cryptocurrencies and stock CFDs, totalling several thousand symbols depending on region, but the US offering is materially narrower (no CFDs; crypto via a separate spot arrangement). Weak points reported by third-party sites include higher-than-average default spreads and complaints about withdrawals and support responsiveness. Overall OANDA suits regulation-conscious and beginner-to-intermediate traders who value a reputable, well-licensed broker over rock-bottom pricing.

Verdict
✓ Trusted reviews

Professional review sites rate OANDA highly and consistently (ForexBrokers.com 4.5/5, FXEmpire 4.4/5), reflecting its status as a long-established, heavily regulated global broker (FCA, CFTC/NFA, ASIC, CIRO). Trustpilot sits lower at 'Average' 3.6/5 with polarised feedback: praise for reliability alongside recurring withdrawal-delay and support complaints. The Sitejabber listing (1.6/5) rests on only 7 reviews and is too small to matter; overall the base looks genuine, not manipulated.
